We had a lazy morning as
the sight seeing hop on hop off bus didn't start until 10:30am. Our destination
was the Noritake Gardens.
Noritake is the world
famous tableware brand which originally started the business in Nagoya in 1904.
The Noritake Garden was built on the company's former factory grounds and
introduces the company and its products while providing a recreational space in
the middle of Nagoya.
In the Craft Centre, you
can observe the creation process of porcelain. There is also a museum exhibiting
exceptional, old Noritake pieces, such as vases, jars and dishes from the early
1900s.
In the Welcome Centre, you can
take a look at the ceramics products produced by Noritake today, which are not
only limited to tableware, but also include various industrial products,
electronics and cutting edge technologies.
When Noritake ventured
into the USA - New York they sent their designers over so they would make what
the USA people want. They would draw vases with designs on them for painters to
paint back in Nagoya.
We then had lunch at the
Noritake cafe, beef stew on Noritake tableware.
On the way back to the
hotel we went into this very expensive handmade handbag shop where the lady
spoke good English. I ask her for a recommendation for dinner and she pointed
us to this place. This is what I had, it was a set meal:
Tofu with some green wasabi served with squid, prawn and caviar cream salad
Sashimi with salad
Meat, capsicum, mushroom and spring onions to be cooked on the cooker. Accompanied by white radish with soya served with beans, prawn, pork and tofu
Rice and dried seaweed, jasmine tea, miso soup and pickles
Absolutely beautiful meal
and our waitress had spent some of her schooling in Ireland and was extremely
helpful.
