Day 5 - Wednesday 13th January 2016 - Arashiyama

Today we had a quite day and didn't get up to much. Our first journey for the day was to Arashiyama.

Arashiyama is a touristy district in the western outskirts of Kyoto and approximately 40 minutes by train. Arashiyama is particularly popular for the bamboo grove. The groves are particularly attractive when there is a light wind.

The bamboo is used to manufacture various products, such as baskets, cups, boxes and mats at local workshops for centuries.

We then headed back to Kyoto for lunch where I had my first beef ramen of the trip!! Yum, Yum

No fabric brought today but we did do other shopping. In the afternoon we went back to our rooms for a stitch and bitch session with a bottle of wine.

  1. Bamboo is a fascinating plant. There are many varieties and I which be could grow some on the property but it needs a lot of water. Bentley TAFE has a wonderful example of Black Bamboo.(huge)
