Kyoto station is
located in a big no huge shopping mall which makes things interesting in
navigating as the station is in the middle and the shops surrounds the
outside.
This morning to head
to the Nishijen textile centre. Here we saw a lady working in a loom which
makes the beautiful kimono fabric designs. AMAZING you really get an
appreciation of how much time goes into one piece of fabric.
We then saw a kimono
fashion parade in which each model is modelling a kimono which was made at
the Nishijen textile centre.
Then we had Japanese
lunch where we ordered our lunch from a computerised machine that had English.
Ali and my meal where really yummy and cheap, less than $10 for all that below
in the pictures.
Ali's meal - ginger pork
hotpot with tempura prawns
Mine - beef hotpot with
noodles and miso soup and an raw egg. When I ask the lady what I did with the
raw egg she said I whisk it and then dip the meal into the egg. Basically it
took the saltiness for the beef soup.
The Kyoto Imperial Palace is the former ruling palace of the Emperor of Japan. The
emperors have resided at the Tokyo Imperial Palace since 1869 (Meiji Restoration); the
preservation of the Kyoto Imperial Palace was ordered in 1877. Today
the grounds are open to the public, and the Imperial House Agency hold
hosts public tours in which we went for one today.
We then made our way
to the teramachi kyogoku shopping arcade where we found our fabric for the
day! I will update you daily on our buys but I'm having a fantastic
time!!!
Love Chi
